CommUnity Pride License Plates
On the highways and streets you will soon see a new license plate. With a blue color mimicking our beautiful bay, they can’t be missed.
For the price of a couple cups of coffee, they can’t be passed up.
The plates are a project of the Assinins Baraga Center. ABC works to preserve and promote the legacies of Chief Edward Assinins and Father Frederic Baraga.
In 1843 Chief Assinins met Fr. Baraga and moved to Keweenaw Bay to start a new mission. Assinins worked long hours to help Fr. Baraga compile the Ojibwa grammar and dictionary as well as other Indian prayer books. The friends worked diligently together for 25 years. During his lifetime, Assinins represented the Baraga County Native Americans at the signing of many historical treaties.
The plates signify the beauty of the area and its people, and the blessings we receive from the deeply rooted faith chosen by our commUnity.
Your support of the local efforts for unity through the Blessings of Baraga is greatly appreciated. The plates are from Unique Images in L’Anse. They can be purchased for $6 at the Baraga County Convention & Visitors Bureau – 524-7444.
Embrace our unity and our faith. Let visitors see how truly beautiful and blessed our commUnity is.
